About

ABOUT US…..

I started Morecambe Moments some years after Dad died and I know that I would not have done this in his life time!   The reasons for that are probably quite deep, but after his death, quite simply, it is my tribute to my Father.

I have always enjoyed painting and generally doing creative things.  I was selling cards as a hobby, all originals. Then people started to get in touch saying “Can you do me one like the one you did for Jane?”  Well, I could do something very similar…..but not absolutely identical. So the idea of printing some of the more popular designs came about.

The very first range was Celebriteds. I have NO idea where the idea came from, but it came to my mind fully formed, a teddy that looks a bit like Dad, doing something from the shows and calling the range Celebriteds.

The other ranges quickly followed on.  The Christmas range has built up more slowly.  I decided I would try to do one “funny” and one more “traditional” card each year.

I used to go to a lot of craft fairs and sell from a few small shops and art galleries.  But about five years ago I was asked by a friend to do a talk at a charity dinner.  I looked blankly at him and said “What about?”. He, of course, said “Your Dad!”

Little did I know that that would be the start of another “career”. The continued interest in Dad has meant that I am now kept very busy talking to all sorts of groups across the country.  The added bonus for me is that I can sell my Morecambe Moments ranges at these events and I am able to support not only the charity I am talking to but also raise funds for my own chosen charity by giving away a percentage of the profits of my Morecambe Moments sales.

I am sure that my Dad would be delighted with all of this!  He did “dabble” in oils and had always showed an interest in my art at school.  He died before I started water colour though.   One of his best friends was Gordon Beningfield, who was a fabulous and very successful artist, particularly known for his water colours of the English countryside and wildlife. The BBC did a documentary about him in the late 1970’s. Gordon very sadly died from cancer just a few years after my Dad but I certainly found him inspirational.

So, all the products here are only available here or at talk somewhere in the country!  When you make a purchase from Morecambe Moments you will be making a donation to a charity.  At the moment I am giving to The Tibet Relief Fund, Victim Support, The Woodland Trust and Friends of the Earth.
