I’m sure you’re aware of Eric Morecambe’s paper bag trick. It became a piece of comedy history but I have no idea what the origins of it are. It was a joke that I would see around the house quite a lot! My dad Eric Morecambe was in many ways a serial prankster at home. If a boy from school rang the house phone and asked to speak to Gail he would more often that not say something like… “I’m terribly sorry but we don’t own a telephone” at which point the nervous young boy would say… “O.K sorry to bother you” and hang up!
