Clementines might not shout Christmas to you but they certainly do in the Morecambe family home. These versatile fruits were not only gifts used to increase the weight of a child’s Christmas stocking… they were also a stealthy way to get children eating one, if not two, of their 5-a-day pieces of fruit (and at a time of year usually reserved for cake and sugar!) and these little ‘balls of fun’ made an amazing prop for jugglers and wanna-magicians (of which my dad was both… or so he thought!). Yes a bright orange, hand sized fruit that made less mess than an egg was always going to be a hit in my house at Christmas time! If my mother had a catchphrase it was probably “Oh Eric…”
